Columbia, SC – The National Beta club at SC Whitmore School has proudly been named a 2024 National Beta All Star Service award winner. The club earned this award by spending an average of 50-75 hours per member serving their school, community, and state this year.

As one of the four pillars of National Beta, service is encouraged to help students learn to demonstrate the motto: Let Us Lead by Serving Others. By showing dedication to service, SC Whitmore School Betas helped contribute to over 1,869,258 hours served by clubs across the nation this year. Collectively, Betas also raised $1,036,655 for various organizations and charities. The club at SC Whitmore School joins a group of only 128 other schools to earn the award this year.

SC Whitmore School teacher and Beta Club Advisor Melissa Green said, “I am so appreciative of our Beta Club members, my co-sponsor Mrs. Adams, and the SC Whitmore School Family for their support. Giving of their time and talents through leadership and service to their communities with compassionate and responsible acts of kindness will continue to improve the world we live in. I’m so very proud of my students for their efforts in exemplifying what that looks like and putting it into action. The students are truly deserving of this honor.”

The SC Whitmore School Beta Club members accrued a total of 811 hours with each member averaging 74 community service hours.

SC Whitmore School Principal Eboné Adams said, “I am so proud of our Beta Club team. We have a wonderful sponsor in Ms. Melissa Green who has supported our members in their journey to dedicating their time to serve their communities. Through their selfless acts of service, they exemplify the values of leadership, compassion, and responsibility. I commend each and every member of the Beta Club team for their outstanding contributions and for being shining examples of the difference that young people can make in the world.”

Members will each receive a commemorative pin and the club will receive a plaque to proudly display in their school.
